Birth of Rosalyn Sussman, 1921, July 19
Remarkable Women remarkable Wisdom,
Sister Mary Francis Gangloff, OSF.

"We cannot expect in the immediate future that all women who seek it will achieve full equality of opportunity. But if women are to start moving towards that goal, we must believe ourselves or no one else will believe in us;  we must match our aspirations with the competence, courage and determination to succeed"

"Rosalyn was born in South Bronx.  Her mother, Clara, was from a German immigrant family  her father of Ukrainian immigrant parents.  Ros, as she was called, taught herself to read before she entered kindergarten...A excellent student, Ros especially liked math, and eventually chemistry and logic. She entered Hunter college at age fifteen.  Reading a biography of Marie Curie further inspired Ros to concentrate in physics...the University of Illinois at Urbana accepted her...She received several medical awards and received half of the Nobel Prize in Medicine....

In 1978 Ros declined the Ladies' Home Journal Woman of the Year Award because she wanted to see women and men on equal footing.  she had struggled and searched in her college years, her marriage and her professional career for that equality and did not wish her achievement to be called remarkable for a woman.

Reflection
It is taking such a long time for women to be recognized as equals
And it is taking a longer time for persons of other races and cultures and abilities to be seen and treated as equals.
However, I believe our generation is making firm strides in this.
It will happen because that is what Jesus did. crsr
