11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Introduction to the Liturgy
Resurrection Medical Center
We are in ordinary time but as we learn through our study of the mystogogy, we experience extraordinary things in our daily lives because Jesus has entered our lives. Today is about the extraordinary gift of forgiveness.
Today we are called to reflect on great forgiveness and great love. In the reading from Samuel, we recall the forgiveness of David after his great sin even though he had experienced such favor from God. Here we see great forgiveness offered out of great love.
In the gospel, we have another experience of a forgiven person. Here we see not only great forgiveness out of great love on God’s part, but also gratitude and great love on the part of the person who was forgiven. The alleluia verse tells us: God so loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. We all are invited to open our minds to believe in God’s great love and to accept God’s forgiveness no matter what we have done in our lives.
As our symbol for today, we have a vessel of oil in front of the altar as an invitation for each of us to join with the woman in the gospel and show our gratitude in whatever way is appropriate to us for the forgiveness of our sins and for the acceptance back into the heart of Christ.
