Founding Day of Alcoholics anonymous, 1935

Alcoholics Anonymous has been instrumental in liberating millions from the slavery of alcohol. Its success is founded in good part on a deep spiritual belief in God - by whatever name you wish to give this Reality beyond yourself. It is also based on companionship with others who are in the process of or are seeking to begin, becoming free, and on a confession of faults. Those who have been thus freed, along with their friends and family, should acknowledge the inspired creation of this group called AA.
This remembrance day is the beginning of the celebration of freedom and liberty that comes to a climax on July 4th. AA teaches us that liberation is never an accomplished reality but is rather an ongoing one. Aware that addiction comes in many more forms than drugs and alcohol, begin this preface to Independence Day by continuing your personal liberation.
Reflection
While alcoholism and drug addiction are acknowledged by society and by us individually,
There are other addictions that we do not recognize as readily.
It took a long time to recognize smoking as an addiction
and then there are other less serious socially but as serious personally addictions that we all have:
Judging others;
Complaining about things- the weather, the spouse, the children, the siblings, the cousins, the church;
Looking at the dark side of things;
Being prejudicial.
Maybe this year is a good time to take Edward Hays' advice to heart and work on
our own personal liberation from our own addictions.crsr
