Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C
Introduction
Resurrection Medical Center

All those who read the scrolls of Isaiah realized that God brought glad tidings to the poor, gave sight to the blind. Therefore we must rejoice in the Lord. Ezra, the priest read the law to men, women and children from daybreak till midday and they listened attentively. Ezra lifted it so all might see it...People prostrated to the floor and wept but Ezra said "Today is holy do not be sad".

So Jesus went to Nazareth and on the Sabbath went to the synagogue according to custom. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll which read, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He anointed Me to bring glad tidings to the poor.   He has send me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."  At our baptism we were given the responsibility to bring glad tidings to the poor and liberating captives.

Jesus was all powerful and strong as He taught this learning stems from the Second Reading which states we were all baptized into one body whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, we were given one Spirit. As an example of unity and oneness in Christ Jesus, we must remember that we were all created by God for a purpose and given gifts and talents to be used and share for the body of Christ so that they will bring glory to God, and glorify His Father.

Out of respect for the Word of God today, the Gospel Book will be carried in procession to the altar reminding us that the word of God is holy and active.  It must be respected, taken to heart and practiced as we serve Christ in one another.
