 EPIPHANY
Introduction to the Liturgy
Resurrection Medical Center

One commentator on today’s liturgy said: “it is one thing to have a vision;  it’s another things to share that vision and to excite others with the possibility that the vision might be realized. And it is quite another thing to accept and appreciate the vision once it becomes real.”

The first reading from Isaiah proclaims the vision, “Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem, Your light has come.”

The Gospel tells of that vision being shared with and exciting the three kings representing the entire universe.

We now have the vision and it is up to us to accept it and appreciate and make it real in our day and age.

It was on the Epiphany in 1891 that the Congregation of the Resurrection officially came into being for the expressed purpose of affirming that vision, appreciating it and making it shine for everyone in our path to see. God used the medium of a star to reveal the nativity of his son to us.  The star lighted the way for the Magi and for the shepherds on that very special night and for all generations on every day that follows that night.

Through the nativity, God revealed his vision that includes
His parenthood, and our “childhood”
His love and our loveable ness
His glory and our greatness
Hs greatness and our littleness
His holiness and our helplessness
His light and our darkness
His will and our call
His call and our response.

Resurrection Health Care is our response to God’s call to us as our sponsors and each one of us in Resurrection leadership has discerned the call in our own lives.  We are here not to carry on the business of health care.We are here to witness to God’s love as it has been revealed to us through the incarnation, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God and our brother.

As this liturgy celebrates these mysteries, let us pray that we would each be enlightened by the vision and that all who see us would recognize the light that has come into our world.
