Freeom from bondage
Easter, Day 38

After being beaten, Paul and Silas were imprisoned  & chained in an inner cell.   There was an earthquake in the prison, they were freed and the guard was converted and took them into his family and his home.  The words said about the jailer were that  he "joyfully celebrated with his whole family his newfound faith in God."  The Presentationministries web page, http://www.presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=5/12/2015 picks this up and identifies some ways for families to celebrate their faith in
God.

• Celebrating anniversaries- such as dates receiving the sacraments
• Celebrating patron saints
• Going to confession together and celebrating afterwards
• Monthly tithing parties in which all decide on a charity and each contribute to it.

The earthquake that shook the foundations of the jail and delivered Paul and Silas from bondage is like the resurrection that delivers us all from our bondage to sin.  We are now free to make our way to our homeland as this hymn celebrates.  (It may be sung to the tune of “Lord, You Give the Great Commission

When from bondage we are summoned
Out of darkness into light.
We must go by hope and patience,
Walk by faith and not by sight.

Let us throw off all that hinders;
Let us run the race to win!
Let us hasten to our homeland
And, rejoicing, enter in.

When our God names us his people,
Then he leads us by the hand
Through a lonely, barren desert,
To a great and glorious land.
